A Topographical Dictionary of Ireland (Lewis, 1837)

Butler's Gift, part of Baurnahulla, was the location of the estate of Richard Tonson, a local landowner. Butler's Gift got its name from Tonson having been given property by Major Anthony Butler, a friend of his grandfather.

????Luth Ith (ancestor to O'Driscoll) ruled the Corkalee territory.
1200'sCahill O'Donovan battled the O'Driscolls, forcing them to migrate towards the coastal areas, and took over Drimoleague as well as parts of Caheragh, Drinagh, Myross, Castlehaven, etc.
1560O'Donovan's castle built by Domhnall a'Chroichinn.
1704Mr. Anthony Butler "vouched" for the good behavior of Father Felix McCarthy, who was registered as the Popish priest for the parish.
1798Tadgh na Samhna (Timothy McCarthy-Sowney) of Deelish was executed for attempting to steal guns from John Gillman in Milane, during the late 18th century rebellion.
1818Reverend Thomas Tuckey was appointed minister to the parish.
1847Nearly half the parish was wiped out by famine or disease.
