Welcome to the web pages I have created while researching my own family roots in southwest Cork! I hope you find them useful. My objective is to keep this information open and freely accessible to site visitors, although any I needed a place to put my leftover material from researching my own family history in the Skibbereen area since starting in 2009, and so this site was born. I was hoping to take over the County Cork web pages for another genealogy website but those plans did not materialize and so I set out on my own. I am not a professional genealogist, but I am a member of BIFHS-USA, which meets regularly at the Los Angeles Family History Library. I have taken coursework with David Rencher, Family Search Chief Genealogical Officer, through the International Society for British Genealogy and Family History. I am also a member of the O'Mahony Society. Working with a local historian in Dunmanway and with an inquisitive friend residing near Drimoleague, we added Drimoleague tombstone records to Find A Grave and we are also transcribing area tithe applotment books and swapping information on local family genealogies. I have also extensively utilized the services at Skibbereen Heritage and cannot recommend them highly enough. The researchers there have done major work constructing my mother's family tree. As of May 2012 I am assisting Colin Ferguson with site administration on the Driscolls of Cork Rootsweb site, which includes Y-DNA and A-DNA projects, and as of August 20, 2012 I am now the project administrator of the O'Hourihane Y-DNA and A-DNA projects. Desert Ireland, my genealogy record retrieval service, is open for business. |
