Norman Milo de Cogan was granted a large piece of land by King Henry II around 1170. In 1223, Myles de Courcey was the first baron of Kinsale, after his marriage to a daughter of de Cogan.
Philip Barry of Ringcurran served in Parliament as Baron around 1302.
Lord Thomas Barry took an oath of allegiance to King Henry VII on May 25, 1486.
Court books dated from 1653 for Kinsale town reveal a heavy English occupation.
